Art Card - "Winter Hillside" - Franklin Carmichael

Franklin Carmichael (1890-1945) "Winter Hillside" c.1918


This 6"x 9" art card of Carmichael's painting Winter Hillside c.1918 would make a beautiful winter greeting.  The card is blank inside and is suitable for framing.  An envelope is included.


Franklin Carmichael was born in 1890 in Orillia, Ontario.
His father was a carriage maker and he worked as a carriage striper before coming to Toronto in 1911 to pursue his art.
He apprenticed at the commercial art firm Grip Limited while studied evenings at the Ontario College of Art.
Carmichael moved to Belgium in 1913 to study painting at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts but due to the war soon returned to his native Ontario.
Along with A. J. Casson and F. H. Brigden, Carmichael founded the Ontario Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1925, as well as the Canadian Group of Painters in 1933, which several members of the Group of Seven would later join.
Franklin Carmichael was the youngest original member of the Group of Seven.
